Why Choose Mt. Airy Children’s Dental Associates?
Our dental practice has dentists who specialize in pediatric or orthodontic care. Dr. David Hasson founded Mt Airy Children’s Dental Associates. He has experience volunteering for programs locally and internationally. Dr. Hasson is also the former president of the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Maryland Society of Dentistry for Children.
He was nominated for the American College of Dentists in 2011. This organization is one of the oldest national honorary organizations, with fewer than 3.5% of dentists elected.
Dr. Stuart Sheer is board-certified in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Dentofacial orthopedics guide facial and jaw bone growth, an important part of pediatric orthodontic treatment. Dr. Sheer helps children create a good foundation for their permanent teeth during two-phase treatment.
Dr. Allison Green is a pediatric dentist passionate about creating happy, healthy smiles for young patients. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Michael Virts is a pediatric dentist that specializes in tongue and lip tie. He was a past President of the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Like Dr. Green, Dr. Virts was a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Today he is an Associate Member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and its Section on Oral Health.
Our dentists have also continued their dental education past dental school. Continuing education courses on dentistry and their dental specialties allow our dental team to learn modern methods and treatments.
High-Quality Dental Care and Technology
Learn about our dental treatments and the technology we use in our office:
Digital X-rays
We take digital x-rays to diagnose and treat patients. Dental x-rays show the roots, jaw bone, and permanent teeth beneath primary teeth. Taking x-rays allows us to keep track of patients’ smiles and easily plan treatment if needed. An added benefit to today’s digital x-rays is that they are much safer than traditional x-rays. Digital x-rays emit 80 percent less radiation and are safe for patients. Of course, we always place an apron on patients for safety.
Laser Dentistry
Dental lasers are modern dental tools that can gently cut soft mouth tissues. Laser dentistry is safe for adults and children. Our dental office uses handheld dental lasers to perform frenectomies. A frenectomy cuts the band of tissue that causes tongue and lip-tie. Many children who have a lip-tie or tongue-tie can experience problems eating and speaking. We use a laser to cut the tissue and free the tongue and lips.
Orthodontic Braces and Appliances
Our dental office provides metal and transparent braces for children and adults. Braces use wire and brackets and place pressure on the teeth. Eventually, this pressure shifts teeth into a straighter position. Sometimes, we recommend orthodontic appliances to help patients who require additional treatment.
For example, we can recommend palate expanders or retainers for patients during or after braces. Invisalign® is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners to straighten teeth. We recommend Invisalign for teenagers and adults because it requires the majority of permanent teeth to work correctly.
