Continuing Dental Education
Our dentists have also continued their dental education past dental school. Continuing education courses on dentistry and dental specialties allow our team to learn modern dental methods and treatments. As dentistry evolves, our dentists stay current on how to approach patient care.
Our Mission As Your Child’s Pediatric Dentist in Mt. Airy
We aim to provide lasting, quality dental care at Mt. Airy Children’s Dental Associates. Our dentists treat patients based on the philosophy that good oral health is part of children’s health.
We provide comprehensive dental treatment for children, teens, and special needs patients. We want children to develop healthy habits and prevent lasting problems like tooth decay and gum disease at a young age. Regular dental visits in our office can ensure your child maintains healthy teeth and gums.
While dental experts can provide high-quality care, our dental office environment is key to a high level of care. In our office, children can receive the dental treatments they need without pain. Regardless of patient age, we ensure patients feel comfortable during their visit.
We will explain your child’s treatment to them in simple terms. Our team will also pause treatment as needed. We understand many young patients can feel nervous at dental visits. Accommodating your child will help ensure their confidence and comfort at future visits.
Common pediatric dental treatments we provide in our office include:
- Dental cleanings: You should bring your child to our office every six months for a routine cleaning and exam. During cleanings, we remove bacterial buildup from the teeth and gumsRegularne cleanings also allow us to teach patients how to brush and floss properly at home.
- Fluoride treatment: Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens the tooth enamel. We recommend fluoride for patients as soon as their first tooth erupts. Following cleaning, we will apply fluoride on the teeth to prevent dental infections.
- Dental sealants: After cleanings, we apply sealants on the back teeth. Sealants “seal” out decay. Protective sealant coatings prevent cavities and tooth decay.
Evidence-Based Dental Care and Technology
In addition to compassionate care, our office strives to use the latest technology to provide outstanding care. Learn about our dental treatments and the technology we use in our Mt. Airy pediatric dental office:
Digital X-rays
We take digital X-rays to diagnose and treat patients. Dental X-rays show the roots, jaw bone, and permanent teeth beneath primary teeth. Taking X-rays allows us to keep track of patients’ smiles and easily plan treatment if needed.
Compared to past X-rays, today’s digital X-rays are much safer. Digital X-rays release 80 percent less radiation. We provide lead aprons for patients to wear when we take X-rays. Digital X-rays are also more detailed; we can accurately create treatment plans based on X-ray images.
Laser Dentistry
Dental lasers are modern dental tools for minimally invasive oral surgical procedures. Laser dentistry is safe for adults and children. Our dental office uses a contact-free laser. We often use dental lasers to treat infant lip and tongue ties.
Our dentists use lasers to cut the band of tissue that causes tongue and lip-tie without any pain. Many children who have a lip-tie or tongue-tie can experience problems eating and speaking. We cut the tissue effortlessly during laser treatment to free the piece under the tongue or lips.
Orthodontic Braces and Appliances
Our dental office provides metal and clear braces for children and adults. Braces use wire and brackets and place pressure on the teeth. Eventually, this pressure shifts teeth into a straighter position. Sometimes, we recommend orthodontic appliances for patients who require additional treatment.
For example, we can recommend retainers for patients during or after braces. Invisalign® is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners to straighten teeth. We recommend Invisalign for teenagers and adults because it requires permanent teeth to work correctly.
